The road climbs above Lake Beseka and the dormant Mount Fentale stratovolcano dominates the western skyline as you approach the park.

The 213 km drive typically takes three to four hours depending on Addis Ababa morning traffic and expressway congestion between 07:00–10:00. Allow extra time if your hotel or lodge is deep within the park; the main gate near Metehara town is straightforward, but northern areas like Filwoha Hot Springs require a high-chassis vehicle and an additional 45–60 minutes from the entrance.

Unscripted taxis from the airport charge $25–35 for the 90 km to Adama alone, then require a second negotiation for the remaining 110 km to the park—often stranding you in Metehara. Public minibuses cost 300–500 ETB ($5–10) Addis to Adama but do not serve the park directly; you would need a third taxi leg with no fixed rate.
