Transfer from Bangkok Airport to Ayutthaya

The journey heads north from Suvarnabhumi along Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, one of the main arterial roads through Bangkok's northern districts, before merging onto the Phahonyothin Expressway for the run toward Ayutthaya. Along the way, the dense city sprawl gradually gives way to industrial estates, warehouses and flat farmland as the urban area thins out. The road distance is about 88 km, and the typical time is around 1 hour 10 minutes in normal traffic.

Your driver waits at the arrivals baggage-hall exit of the terminal where your flight lands, holding a name sign. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours at peak times, particularly weekday mornings and late afternoons when traffic builds on the northbound corridor out of Bangkok. Ayutthaya's historical park is spread out, so plan your visit around tuk-tuks, bicycles or walking between temples, and carry water and sun protection.

The main alternative is a metered taxi, which can face queues at the airport rank and slow rush-hour traffic. Minivans from Mo Chit are cheaper, but they depart from Mo Chit rather than the airport, so you need a separate connection to reach them. The State Railway's Bangkok Connex service runs from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal to Ayutthaya in just over an hour, but no direct rail link from the airport is confirmed, so you would still need a transfer to reach the terminal.
