Discover Ischgl: A Premier Ski Destination in the Alps

Ischgl: back to skiing

3 minutes read

Do you want to ski in a lively, fun, yet very very quiet resort? If you can pronounce the name… come to Ischgl, Austria’s Tyrol, in the heart of the Alps. Switzerland and Liechtenstein are just a stone’s throw away, and you shall spend days skiing amidst stunning panoramas or exploring the surrounding areas of rare beauty. To reach Ischgl, you must land at Innsbruck Airport (INN) and, from there, travel by rapid public transport or dedicated private transportation (with a driver, or by the hour) to your destination.

Ischgl: a ski resort looking for “redemption”

Precisely because it has become known as a “glam lively place” with no shortage of trendy restaurants, nightclubs, and VIP events, Ischgl was losing its aura as a ski paradise. True athletes were emigrating elsewhere, seeking adrenaline, not the limelight. But the resort has recently been trying to regain its reputation in sports as well. It has the potential to offer the best in winter sports!

With 239 km of slopes and 15 km of ski routes, its 46 lifts can take skiers from 1,360 to 2,872 meters above sea level. Its slopes offer skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and cross-country skiing: 140 km are dedicated to intermediate skiers (red slopes); for beginners, 47 km of blue slopes are available; professionals can challenge themselves on the remaining 52 km of highly difficult black slopes. Ischgl also offers off-piste skiing.

Connected to the nearby Samnaun lifts, Ischgl’s facilities offer fun and efficiency, forming a true center of excellence. It would be a real shame to ignore it!

More than just snow…

Ischgl is also a great summer tourist place, thanks to a high-altitude water park and several swimming pools. You can go hiking, stroll through the meadows, picnic in the woods, and have fun at the Vider Truja adventure park.

Wandering around the charming village with its typical Tyrolean architecture, you can admire the little church of St Nicholas, the flower-filled Trisanna river’s banks, and the site where a meteorite embedded in the mountain (now in a museum in Vienna) was discovered in 1976 thanks to a “providential” avalanche! About an hour’s drive from the village, you can admire the lakes Silvretta and Kos.

Liechtenstein is less than two hours away from Ischgl, and Lake Constance (Bodensee) in Switzerland is about the same distance. Of course, Innsbruck, Bolzano (Italy), and the majestic Zugspitze mountain are also within easy reach.
