Alternative locations away from the tourism of the wealthy
If you don’t have the means to share the areas and activities of the wealthy, or if you simply don’t want to mingle with them, just follow a few good tips and you’ll have no problems during your vacation in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Once you land, you can rely directly on public transportation (buses and ferries), but we recommend to better book a transfer with a driver in order to always have the freedom to get around at your leisure. By staying in tourist farm-houses or guesthouses, you’ll save a lot of money. It is also much cheaper to buy food and drinks at the many village markets than waiting in line at fancy luxury restaurants.
Staying in Nevis is certainly less expensive than finding accommodation in Basseterre or on the island of St. Kitts.
If certain excursions seem too expensive (for example, climbing Mount Liamuiga or swimming in Frigate Bay), opt to explore lesser-known spots: for example, Philip’s Village or Cayon on the island of St. Kitts, or the Central Forest National Park. Or, in Nevis, you can visit the volcano, Fig Tree, or “Taylor’s Pastures” and walk around like a local among the locals.
