Spring is a season that mostly inspires outdoor holidays, among colors and scents and flavors that create atmosphere. But it is also the ideal season to go and discover the great cities of art, thanks to the climate that becomes milder without stressing with the high peaks of summer heat. And if some rain accompanies you along the tour, it will be short-lived and perfectly “in tune” with the environment. We suggest the “top ten” European cities that you can choose as destinations for your spring holidays, also depending on their uniqueness or comforting “normality”.

The queens of Spring

These are those European capitals that have always been associated with the idea of a spring holiday. Traditional, classic, predictable destinations if you like. But they never disappoint. They are suitable for those who are always looking for a comfortable certainty and for those who are not afraid of walking… and walking a lot!

Paris

The capital of France, in spring still lets its traditional “showers” to moisten it, but it also expresses wonderful floral decorations that adorn  historic monuments. The ideal tour in Paris will be: Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, Notre-Dame, Louvre Museum, Île de la Cité. A visit to the Palace of Versailles and especially its endless gardens is a must. In spring, a trip on a “bateau” on the Seine is a must. Reference airport: Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG).

London

London in spring never disappoints. In addition to the classic monuments (Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, Westminster, the Tower of London, the London Eye Ferris wheel), in this season the walk not to be missed will be to the splendid Kew Gardens, Hyde Park or among the colorful stalls of Notting Hill and Portobello Road. You will land at Heathrow Airport (LHR).

Vienna

Elegant Vienna has always welcomed everyone with its tranquil aura that makes you feel “at home”. Excellent season to visit the Schoenbrunn Palace, the Hofburg, the spectacular Gothic cathedral, the many historical and art museums and of course the Prater district with the giant Ferris wheel. When the flowers fill every corner with color, it is the ideal time in Vienna to visit and enjoy the Belvedere Palace. You land at the local Vienna Airport (VIE).

Prague

Having become the spring destination par excellence, in the 1990s , the capital of the Czech Republic maintains the primacy. The “Florence of the East” loves to be admired in this season in all its popular elegance. The colorful houses of Malà Strana, the cathedral, the Gothic palaces of the Old Town, the rich temples of the Jewish Quarter, the Charles Bridge are the unique scenery that goes well with the spring climate. The airport is Prague (PRG).

The new entries of the season

These “new” destinations are increasingly entering the tradition of the “spring tour”. These are cities usually booked for autumn or summer, but now they are among the destinations to be rediscovered among the flowers and light of May! Perfect for the curious people who are looking for even more emotions in spring.

Berlin

In particular, the German capital invites you to admire – in addition to the famous Wall, the Brandenburg Gate, the museums and the Zoo (Tiergarten) – also places such as Alexanderplatz, in the eastern part, or the medieval Nikolai district, and the Kreuzberg center of street art. Experiencing Berlin’s nightlife in this season, with live music and art shows, is the best. Don’t miss the opportunity! Reference airport, Berlin Brandenburg (BER).

Amsterdam

Amsterdam in spring should be experienced in full harmony with nature, which is reflected in the canals. Tulip fields outside the city, silent boats that pass on the water, enjoyable rhythms of life encourage you to discover places such as: the Flower Market, Keukenhof Park, the Clog Factory, the Van Gogh Museum and the towns on the banks of the Markermeer, spectacular in this season. The arrival airport, to begin the adventure on the dams, is Amsterdam (AMS).

Barcelona

Barcelona is usually a summer destination, made up of sea, sun and fun until dawn. In spring, however, it is rediscovering itself as a paradise for those who love “slow pace” holidays, at a slow pace. Visiting the Gothic Quarter in spring is the best. But so is walking on the beaches that are not yet crowded or admiring the Sagrada Familia without rushing. The grandiose Aquarium is an unmissable destination in every season. Land at Barcelona Airport (BCN).

Brussels

Experiencing Brussels in spring means booking a tour that touches: the cathedral, the Grand-Place, the Atomium monument and the Mini Europe and Cinquantenaire parks. Two original tips? The museum of optical illusions, Illusion Brussels, and the Museum of Musical Instruments. Brussels Airport (BRU) will welcome you.

Original Spring destinations

Do you want to visit two spring destinations far from the “usual” seasonal vacationers? Choose Hungary and Malta, where tourism grows  every year more but in Spring days it is still held back. And this makes their cities livable and fascinating. Destinations suitable for the younger ones but also for those who want something new to tell.

Budapest

The Hungarian capital in spring is sweetened by a mild climate that also offers pleasant cool breezes to accompany guided tours of the splendid historic streets, the ancient gardens, the great river that separates – or unites? – the two souls of the city, the districts of Buda and Pest. Must-see stops include Buda Castle, the Parliament Building, the Széchenyi Spa Palace, Margaret Island, the Gardens of Godollo Palace, the delightful colorful neighborhood of Szentendre. Your journey will begin at Budapest Airport (BUD).

Valletta

The capital of Malta is an ancient “small metropolis”. A contradiction, perhaps, but not too much. It is indeed small, because its artistic heart is all nestled in the historic core, but its expansion has incorporated the neighboring municipalities and their historic centers (The Three Cities, Sliema, Hamrun, Santa Venera…) thus creating a single and gigantic nucleus. Your spring tour here will include: Fort St. Elmo, St. Paul’s Cathedral, St. John’s Co-Cathedral, the Three Cities, Barrakka Gardens, Gardjola Gardens, the Grand Master’s Palace. Malta Airport (MLA) – your point of reference for the trip – is not far from the heart of the capital.
