What are the top Easter destinations for the year 2025? It would almost be spontaneous to say that they are the typical locations of the great Holy Week celebrations, such as Seville in Spain, or Oaxaca in Mexico or the very Christian Vienna. Locations that certainly attract tourism during Easter time, but that this year will have to compete with slightly more exotic destinations. In fact, for year 2025 the attention of spring tourism ranges across three continents and three equally beautiful destinations to explore during the Easter holidays. Which ones? Come and see!
Rome is immortal, certainly an eternal tourist destination that does not need special advertising. But it i salso a destination that also manages to impose itself, periodically, above its own fame.
In 2025, come and celebrate Easter in Rome. Not only because here the feast of the Resurrection is deeply felt, especially within the walls of Vatican City where the Pope celebrates the most emotional functions … but also because monuments and museums are always open. And with the happy climate that characterizes the Italian capital at Easter, it will be a pleasure to explore places and events.
Places you must certainly visit, while in Rome: the ancient ruins of Coliseum, Roman Forum, Pantheon; the impressive squares such as Piazza Navona, Piazza San Pietro, Piazza del Popolo, Campo de’Fiori; the romantic quarter of Trastevere; the colourful and joyful neighbourhood of Garbatella; the beautiful parks (Villa Borghese, Villa Torlonia, Villa Doria Pamphili, Ostia Antica Archaeologic Park). Of course you cannot miss a visit to the most beautiful churches: St Peter, St Louis dei Francesi, St John Laterano, St Peter in Vincoli… . If you have the time and chance to do it, take part into the moving celebration of Good Friday Night at the Coliseum.
You can easily get to Rome by landing at Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and booking your perfect transfer with us, at Transfeero services.
An alternative and exotic Easter? Why not try… Lalibela, in Ethiopia?
This incredible and mysterious city, with an ancient history (dating back to a thousand years before Christ), became the “Jerusalem of Africa” in the early Christian era, when a local king who converted to Christianity decided to build monuments to his new faith.
It was him who built eleven monolithic churches, dug directly into the rock of the mountain. But – unlike classic monoliths – not elevated in height, but developed in depth! In a word, enormous ditches were dug, leaving the central part of the rock intact; this was later sculpted and further dug to form a sacred building! Also, the houses of the town – traditional “tukuls”, round towers made of mud and stone – are an architectural monument you shall admire. If you can spend your time in a 5-hour drive trip, you could also explore the charming lake Tana (267 km away from Lalibela).
In order to get to Lalibela you first land at Addis Abeba Airport (ADD) and then take a local flight to Lalibela Airport (it will take 1 hour to get there). We do not suggest to go by car, bus or organized safari, because you need 14 hours to arrive!
Always looking for an exotic Easter… but less adventurous? Then focus on Japan, which is always a fashion destination in spring, and in particular on the city of Kyoto. Not only because the ancient Japanese capital is full of temples and therefore offers a deep spirituality (although not Christian) … but also because -if you are lucky enough- you will be there during the cherry blossom season. A breathtaking spectacle!
Kyoto shows itself in all its beauty, inviting you to visit places such as: Nijo Castle, the Emperor’s Palace, the Philosophers’ Way, Katsura Palace, Kyoto Tower … . Shrines such as Yasaka, Fushimi, Kenninji, Kyomizu Dera are just a few example of the many ancient temples you could admire, here. Also visit: the bamboo forest and Gion District (the Geishas’ quarter). Not far from Kyoto city center you could explore other very important tourist destinations: lake Biwa, Kobe, Nara, Osaka, Nagoya, the beaches of Kanazawa and Kami.
Kansai International Airport (KIX) – also serving the city of Osaka – is the closest hub for those who want to visit this city and its region. Kansai Airport is well connected to many important cities, including Kyoto, which allows you to easily move from one place to another.
